Garages

Question

How do you account for an attached garage when doing the Eight Houses Trigram? Do you include it or ignore it? I am reading the Complete Idiot’s Guide to Feng Shui.
Thank you

Answer

Unless you live or spend considerable time in your garage, you don’t account for it. You wouldn’t bother analyzing the garage at all, typically. If you entered the house through the garage you’d still be looking at the entry from the house’s point of view, not the garage’s.

One circumstance where it could be worthwhile to analyze the garage is if you converted it to living space. In that case, is the entryway larger than a door? If it is, then it might be considered part of the rest of the house.

Notice I say “might be.” Everything depends on the particular circumstance.

This is the challenge of trying to follow books to analyze structures. There is more to feng shui than can fit into the few pages of any guide — the amount of material that’s missing is more than is in any book on the market! Most of the information must be taught, and most must be practiced under the watchful eye of instructors.

Using a feng shui book to analyze your house is a lot like trying to use the “Good Housekeeping” cookbook to become a Michelin Chef. You can do it, but it is going to take a lot of time and a lot of work!
